MACM's 25th Annual Advanced Mediation Training Conference, September 15th-17th, 2010, is once again being held at the Crystal Mountain Resort & Spa.  Registration materials will be mailed out shortly.   If you are not a MACM member or are too impatient to wait for it to arrive in the mail, .... don't worry, you can download the registration form(s) from our website and begin the  registration process now.  The deadline for registration is August 16, 2010.

Our 2009 conference fee (double occupancy lodging) was $295... This year, the conference fee with double occupany lodging will be only $175; $230 if you would like your own room.   This is not a typo.  MACM has joined with both the Michigan Judicial Institute and the Office of Dispute Resolution branches of the State Court Administrative Office to offer outstanding training and top notch accommodations at an incredible price.  We
're anticipating a large turnout for this years conference.  Therefore, we suggest you register as soon as possible to assure your spot as we may have to limit the number of attendees due to space limitations.

Go to the  2010 Conference Page for all of the information about the conference; registration form(s), conference agenda, faculty biographies, etc.

MACM Founders Q & A

This  September will be MACM's 25th Conference.  It all started 25 years ago when  Sharon Tillman, Marti VanHeake, Mary Beth Lippold (Gersich), Julie Haveman, Peter Stathakis and others recognized a need for a special state-wide organization to represent the interests of employees of the Friend of the Court engaging in divorce mediation under the Friend of the Court Act.  MACM was born.

Former MACM President, Guy Jacobson reached out to our MACM Founders for a little Q & A.... and we'd like to share their responses with Membership:

Call To Action

Dear MACM Members and Friends:
As an organization, we have identified a current issue which has a great impact on the work we do.  Many of our members are employed by Friend of the Court in the areas of custody and parenting time.  All of us do work in this area because know the value of mediation and other custody and parenting time services to families and particularly to children.  In these difficult financial times, most of us have seen reductions in personnel and services to clients.  This is at least in part because these positions are not significantly funded under Title IV-D.

This year's Michigan Association of Court Mediators (MACM) Advanced Mediation Training Conference will be Wednesday, September 15 through Friday, September 17.  Please mark these dates in your calendar, as MACM will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary of providing quality advanced mediation training in 2010.  I will follow up soon with more details about the conference, including information on the presenters and special activities to celebrate this impressive milestone.

I hope to see you in September!

Another year and another successful conference.  It appears the new venue at Crystal Mountain was a big hit.  In this economy we are so grateful for everyone's participation. Attendance was up from the past two years.  I want to thank everyone for their efforts in putting together a wonderful conference.  I hope we all walked away with a new sense of purpose for our jobs and information that will continue to help us in our professional lives.  We’ll be at Crystal again in 2010 (September 15th – 17th) to celebrate our 25th Conference.    Many exciting things are already in the works and we are looking forward to seeing everyone next year and hopefully even more new faces.

Sincerely,

Katie Dopke
